Campbell's Covered Bridge

Built in 1909, Campbell's Covered Bridge (or "red house bridge," a Woog title) is the last remaining in the state. Recently added to the National Register of Historic Places, the area oozes an unexplainable eeriness. It seemed a bit... sad or subdued with a healthy pinch of creepy.
We hadn't researched the area prior to site-seeing. We were only slightly surprised to learn that the place has lots of unexplained phenomena surrounding it.
The kids seemed immune to the creepiness and were more interested in playing in, getting to, splashing through the leafy water.

Poinsett Bridge and I'm In Love

Poinsett Bridge, constructed in 1820, is the oldest surviving bridge in the state. Once used as a roadway from Charleston to Asheville, NC, the impressive landmark is touted to be haunted by the ghosts of slaves and indigenous Indians. We didn't run into anything spooky, but the whole area does rock a kind of Robin of Locksley vibe... entirely too beautiful and otherworldly.

PS, our photography skills are improving, don't you think?

Roadside Scenery

We call these the Ivy Giants. It's really called Kudzo and it can be detrimental to any forested areas...it grows like wildfire and chokes out all plant life. Still, it's pretty to look at.

Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway 11

Our explorations lead us up a section of the well-known Scenic Hwy 11. Nature was totally showing off today.

Visiting Aunt Sue's

Aunt Sue's..it's kinda iconic, if you're from around here. We'd never been and were nearly embarrassed to admit it. So today we decided to explore and check off some of the glaringly unchecked boxes.
Aunt Sue's Country Store, Rock Museum, Outdoor Outfitter, Restaurant and locally crafted goods place.... check.
I hope I'm not rubbing it in when I say it was a completely gorgeous day, mid 70's, leaves tinged with happy Fall, blue-blue sky with just a whisper of clouds.
Ahh, the good life.

Boo in the Zoo

Greenville Zoo plays host to a fun-filled event rife with spooky (but not too spooky) fun. For a couple of evenings near Halloween, the sweet little zoo transforms into a ghostly good time for wees of all ages. This year it was packed!

Laying in wait...our Little Dragons perched on the tailgate ready for an evening of fire-breathing fun. Ever refused to wear her dragon hood, while Woog (in an unusual attempt at cooperation) agreed to wear his- at least temporarily.

The dragons grow restless... Daddy is still adapting to the new camera and for a good 25 pictures or better, cut the heads off of one or more subjects. Here's the best of that series. Better luck next time Daddy.

The tail...for certain the best part of these handmade-by-GwaMa costumes. Seriously exaggerated and completely adorable, the babies were the talk of the zoo.

We'd be lost without our good 'ol wagon. It's so strong it can even tote two dragons!

Ever is shouting, "PUM...PUM," while Woog tells her to hush.

Perched.

Tails are FUN, she thinks just after whacking her brother in the back of the head.

Most of the animals were asleep (or at least pretending)...but not the goats. These billies were hoping for a rogue batman cape or Diego backpack.

We're nearing the end of the zoo journey. It shows. Most of the subjects in the picture look pretty tired...all but that tail- it's raring to go!

The we-don't-use-our-tails-to-slap-each-other-in-the-face talk.

The I'm-not-listening-to-a-word-you're-saying aftermath.

First Real, All the Way Haircut

Gina's magic chair and special Wonder Pets cape!

"Can't move or I get a poke," Woog mutters nervously.

Cheeeeese (demurely).

All Done! Thanks Miss Gina! :)

And now for your tip...some fresh Woogie Lovin'.

It was overdue...because of me mostly. I was just not ready to see his long curls go away. I mustered up the strength to call Gina after the third knot had to be cut from his hair (he's a twirler).
Down to the middle of his back when wet, Gina trimmed a healthy 4 inches of the back and another good portion from the front and sides. He looks a little like a monk right now, the curls unsure what to do so they just fold under in a fancy Friar Tuck, duckbill kind of way.
I saved every piece of hair, enough to make a memory sweater, me thinks. :)

Tuesday's Lunch at the Park

Woog's a pro at the jungle gyms now. He always picks the biggest slide to zip down.

Ever struggles to get her shirt off... our little exhibitionist.

The progression of a pointy finger...

Disgruntle Love.

Big Girl Baby

We took Daddy and our lunch to the park for some afternoon playtime. It was such a beautiful day, sunny and warm... Watching them play by themselves caused us pause- they're getting SO big
